The theme of the March diptych is silhouette.

“Ghost at Full Moon on LBI” (I made in 2017). I wanted to shoot on the beach at the full moon.    I did many photos that evening and this one I made as the moon had risen above the horizon.  I posed the model to be backlit against the reflection of the moon on the ocean to emphasize the silhouette.  I had no other illumination of the model.  I used a slow shutter speed to smooth the water and allow for some movement in the model to give her an ethereal, ghostly look.  I posed her looking out to sea to add to the mystery, “what is she thinking as she gazes seaward?”

“Waiting for a Wave” (2018).  Early heats at the skim boarding competitions on the Atlantic are heavily backlighted by the rising sun.  I used that heavy backlight and the reflection of the sun on the ocean to make several images of skim boarding competitors warming up and in early heats.  I liked this image for the pose, resting on his board and waiting for the next good wave to ride.
