The February theme is interior architectural structures. The common color scheme in these images also helps to tie them together. In fact these two images were made in state capitol buildings we visited during a trip in 2021. My 2022 calendar featured landscape and wildlife photos made on that trip.
“Ohio Statehouse Floor” (2021) – I was fascinated by this floor and wished I had much more time and my tripod, and left alone to work. But I was able to make this image handheld and was able to wait long enough for our group not to be in the image, and still not to be left behind. While not all of this interesting floor can be seen in this image, it was a more interesting view when I moved through the doorway; but not one I could fully capture at the time. I can only imagine the image I could have made if I could have positioned myself directly above this floor!
“To the Arkansas House Chamber” (2021). The long stairway and the structures of the column caught my attention for this image. I shot it from the base of the steps, but found this perspective, above the stairs opposite and on the same level as the entry doo to the House chamber to be more compelling. The sunlight on the chamber door was serendipitous for me.
